Wax Removal

pressure vesselOnce the shell has been completed the wax has to be removed to create a hollow negative cavity in which to pour the molten metal.

This is achieved by placing the shell in a steam pressure vessel (above) for 5-20 minutes where high pressure super heated steam melts and forces the wax from the mould. Melted wax is collected and recycled for use as new pattern tree runners.

Next the ceramic shell mould is heated to approximately 1000°C for one hour to eliminate any residual wax enhance the mechanical strength of the shell and to preheat in preparation for casting.
