Finishing

  
Once sprues have been removed from castings they are then accurately finished using a variety of tools and machines.

 
linishing machine Hand and machine linishers (belt sanders) are used to improve the surface flatness of castings by removing any evidence of sprues.
Small components are held in jigs to aid accuracy and safety

blasting abrasive grits After linishing, components are often bead blasted to clean surfaces before polishing. This involves blasting abrasive grits (below) on to the surface of the casting using compressed air. The effect is to gouge away the surface where it is exposed.
